Shilpa hails from the 'Bunt' community of Karnataka, a south Indian state. She was born as the eldest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty. Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also a Bollywood actress. Shilpa Shetty started her career as a model. It was her debut film 'Bazigar' in 1993 that invited her to the Bollywood. Her first lead role was in 'Aag' in 1994. Since then she has acted in more than 50 Indian films.
