Another movie reigning supreme in the box office is ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, a masterpiece by the brilliant Karan Johar released in August 2006. The movie always had high expectation owing to the star-studded cast and their unusually successful chemistry together. Indeed, previous Karan Johar films featuring Shahrukh, Rani, Preeti have never failed in the box office. However, this film has a few exceptional traits which make it really special and worth watching.
Unlike some other films by Johar, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is a very seriously natured film that shows the problems in the marital lives of different individuals who makes audacious moves in intricate situations. The film narrates the story of two families - Sarans and Talwars, who are co-incidentally brought together by circumstances. Dev Saran (Shahrukh Khan) has a turbulent relationship with his wife Rhea (Preity Zinta) & son Arjun (Ahsaas) and eventually, turns all his resentment towards his loved ones.
On the other hand, Maya Talwar (Rani Mukherji) is seen facing a lot of self-doubt and puzzles which result in a deterioration in her relationship with her husband Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan). The story takes a radical turn when Dev and Maya accidentally bump into each other one day. The movie’s glowing star is none other than Shahrukh Khan who acts brilliantly in a role that he is not accustomed to. The other star performers also performed decently to give the movie a very genuine feeling. The experienced Amitabh Bachchan does justice to his ‘icon’ image by delivering yet another memorable performance.
In a nutshell, 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is a truly remarkable film from the perspective of both performance and writing. It has sizzling styles, complex substance and a daring attitude of not following the traditional theme.
